Laphroaig Quarter Cask
Distillery: Laphroaig
Distillery Owner: Diageo
Country: Scotland
Region: Islay
ABV: 48%
Tasting Notes
Colour: beautiful golden colour. Cloudy with ice due to non-chill filtration
Nose: medicinal, ashy, smell of green wood, burnt rubber, hints of citrus and vanilla.
Taste: short explosion of heat, peaty, buttery, smokey with a little citrus.
Body: full bodied with the peat just punching you in the face.
Finish: long smokey tempered with some sweetness and citrus.
Overall: I loved the peat which makes this one of my favourites. My wife did not like the smell at all and I admit it is not for everyone. It is an acquired taste but once you give it a chance it shows its deep and interesting character. This single malt is in the stronger side of the ABV (48%) but the heat is short and no hints of astringency.
