About Whisky Tofu

Oban Scotland.

My name is Christopher but some people call me Tofu. This is a blog dedicated to my exploration of the world of Scotch Whisky. So whisky and tofu make whiskytofu. I used to drink Bourbon but when I tasted my first Scotch I got very interested in it.

A few months ago, I had a chance to visit Scotland so I started reading more about the history and the art of making single malt scotch. I fell into a rabbit hole I did not want to get out of. Scotch has such a deep and interesting history - just like the complex flavours in a decent dram of single malt - that I fell in love with it. During my trip to Scotland I learned more about the history of the country, explored the highlands, visited distilleries and enjoyed a few decent drams. That trip changed my life and since then I have been reading a lot more about Scotch and drinking.

This page is my journal into my exploration of Scotch whisky. I am not an expert and my tasting notes, as you will see, do not have the sophistication you might be accustomed to reading whisky magazines. Also I do not like very verbose and prosaic tasting notes. To me Scotch is about the emotion it stirs in you and I firmly believe that the aroma and the flavours you get from Scotch awakens these emotions which greatly affects what you smell and taste. I love chocolate and coffee so my tasting notes will gravitate a lot on chocolate, and vanilla flavours. I also grew up in a small province in the Philippines where the practice of burning dead leaves in the countryside - to fight mosquitoes - was common so peat smoke flavour feels home to me which is the reason why I love peated Scotch.

I will also be sharing some interesting articles I come across in the internet related to Scotch. This is to show you that Scotch is not just a drink but a wonderful marriage of craftsmanship and science.

I hope you will enjoy reading this page and I hope that you will also find your way into Scotch. Slainte!
